Community Update: May 29, 2026

May 29, 2026 edition of Councillor Alejandra Bravo's Community Newsletter

Summer weather has finally arrived and I’m looking forward to attending the many local events that make summertime in Davenport so special. My team and I are excited to host you and talk with you at so many upcoming amazing events.

Up first is our final Environment Day of 2026 on Sunday, May 31 from 10:00 to 2:00 pm at Loretto College. Join us to safely dispose of household hazardous waste, and donate items for reuse, helping to reduce how much of our waste ends up in a landfill.

Next, my office’s Free Outdoor Movie Night returns on Thursday, July 9. We can’t wait to see you back at Earlscourt Park. We’re not sure which movie we’ll be showing yet, and we need your help to choose!

  • Big on Bloor: Saturday - Sunday, July 18 - 19 on Bloor from Dufferin to Lansdowne
  • BrazilFest: Saturday - Sunday, July 18 - 19 at Earlscourt Park

The annual Portugal Day Parade is such a great event every year, with lots of music, dancing, plenty of energy. I look forward to seeing you there:

  • Portugal Day Parade: Saturday, June 13 starting at St. Clair Avenue West and Oakwood Avenue at 10:00 am

Some other events in my calendar that I’m really looking forward to this summer include:

  • Kick-Off Arts in the Park at Dufferin Grove: Friday, June 5, at Dufferin Grove Park, from 1:00 - 4:00 pm
  • Dovercourt Movie Night: Friday, June 19 at Dovercourt Park at 7:00 pm
  • Newcomers Pride: Sunday, June 21 at Earlscourt Park, from 2:00 - 6:00 pm
  • Concerts on Connolly: Sunday, July 12 at Wadsworth Park from 4:00 - 9:00 pm

As always, I hope to see you out in our community this summer whether it’s attending a local festival, spending time in one of our parks, supporting a local business, or connecting with neighbours at a community event. I cherish every opportunity to connect and hear your ideas and suggestions. Wishing you a fun summer ahead!

Sincerely,

Davenport Movie Night 2026

Our outdoor movie night is returning for Summer 2026! We can’t wait to see you back at Earlscourt Park on Thursday, July 9. Thank you to our partners at TCEU Local 416 for helping put the event on.

My office has been in a spirited debate over which movie to show, so we need to put the decision in your hands. Cast your vote now and help us pick this summer’s movie.

Weekend closure of segment of Line 2

This weekend will see a full weekend closure of Line 2 from Jane to Ossington Station due to planned track work as part of the TTC’s ongoing state of good repair program. The closure will start on Saturday, May 30 with regular service resuming on Monday, June 1, 2026.

There will be no subway service between Jane and Ossington stations for the duration of the closure. Shuttle buses will operate to replace subway service along the affected segment.

Shuttle buses will operate between Jane and Ossington stations for the duration of the closure. TTC staff will be available throughout the affected area to assist customers with wayfinding and alternative travel options.

Bloor–Dufferin Community Hub Update

The Bloor–Dufferin Community Hub, currently under construction at Bloor and Dufferin, will provide approximately 19,000 square feet of City-owned community space and will be a shared, multi-service facility that brings together a range of community-based social, cultural, and support services in one accessible location. Located within a broader mixed-use redevelopment, the Hub will play a central role in supporting a growing and diverse neighbourhood. The Hub is expected to open in 2027 and will improve outcomes for individuals and families, expand access to services, and maximize the use of City-supported space.

Five not-for-profit organizations have been selected through the City’s Community Space Tenancy Policy following a competitive process. Together, they reflect a diverse and complementary set of expertise aligned with local community needs:

  1. West Neighbourhood House – Multi-service programming including housing and income supports, food security initiatives, family and seniors’ services, and access to community space.
  2. BALANCE for Blind Adults – Rehabilitation and support services for individuals who are blind or partially sighted, including mobility training, adaptive skills, and peer programming.
  3. Toronto Rape Crisis Centre (Multicultural Women Against Rape) – Survivor-centred counselling, crisis response, advocacy, public education, and operation of a 24/7 support line.
  4. CultureLink Settlement and Community Services – Newcomer settlement supports, employment and mentoring programs, youth and family services, and mental wellness programming.
  5. ODIFY Studios – Arts-based, wellness, mentorship, and leadership programming, including workshops, cultural events, and creative community initiatives.

Together, these organizations will deliver a broad range of accessible, low-barrier services that support children, youth, seniors, families, and equity-deserving communities. The Hub model enables greater collaboration between agencies, enhances service coordination, and creates a welcoming, community-centred space that reflects and responds to local priorities.
