Yesterday, Oakwood Collegiate Institute entered a lockdown due to a stabbing incident near the school. Events like this are frightening, and we know that our community will need some time to heal.

We have offered our support to Principal Parise and to the Oakwood school community.

It has incorrectly been reported that the victim was attacked in the school. In reality, the 17-year old victim turned to the school for help, and found it in the staff. Oakwood Collegiate is a caring school and was there in a time of urgent need.

Thank you to first responders in the Toronto Paramedic Services and Toronto Police for their on-site response to keep students and community safe. Toronto’s Community Crisis Response Program was immediately deployed and is working in the area to support community healing and wellbeing in the coming days and weeks.

School-based supports will also be available to students and parents, those looking for resources should contact their school principal.
