Extreme Cold Weather Alert

The Chief Medical Officer of Health has issued an Extreme Cold Weather Alert. Learn more about preventing cold-related illness and staying warm here.

City Building Closures

All of the following city buildings/centres will be closed on Friday, December 23:

• All recreation centres, arenas, and conservatories operated by Toronto Parks, Forestry, and Recreation
• All library branches operated by the Toronto Public Library.
• All child care centres, after-school programs, and EarlyON Child & Family Centres that are located within schools. 

All of the following city buildings will be closed on Friday, December 23 and Saturday, December 24:

• All vaccination clinics and mobile clinics operated by Toronto Public Health
• Toronto History Museums
  • Fort York National Historic Site, Mackenzie House, Market Gallery, Spadina Museum, Gibson House, Zion Schoolhouse, Scarborough Museum, Todmorden Mills, Colborne Lodge, Montgomery's Inn

Downed Power Lines

If you see a downed power line, stay away and report to Toronto Hydro by calling 416-542-8000. If the downed power line is posing a direct threat to human life or has caused a fire, call 911. 

Snow Clearing

PlowTO tracks real-time locations of plows, sidewalk plows and salt trucks and identifies which roads have been serviced by winter snow clearing vehicles and crews within the last 12 hours. You can view the live map here. 

If possible, avoid parking your vehicle on the road during and after snowfall. Parked vehicles can sometimes delay City crews in clearing the roads for emergency and transit vehicles.

TTC Service Updates

• All Line 3 Scarborough RT train services will be replaced by shuttle busses to inclement weather. Buses will be running between Kennedy and McCowan stations. 
• The following bus stops in Davenport have been taken out of service, to prevent buses from getting stuck on known icy trouble spots:
  • 29 Dufferin (Northbound) - Dufferin St at Davenport Rd
  • 47 Lansdowne (Northbound) - Caledonia Park between Keith Avenue and Eglinton Avenue West

Warming Centres

City of Toronto warming centres are currently open. All spaces are available by walk-in:

• Scarborough Civic Centre, 150 Borough Drive
• Metro Hall, 55 John St.
• Mitchell Field Community Centre, 89 Church Ave.

Agincourt Recreation Centre (7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m), John Innes Community Centre (7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.), and Regent Park Community Centre (7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.) are also open for respite, but are not full-service warming centres. 

If you see someone outside in need of help due to extreme cold, call 311. In an emergency, call 911.
